Joan Didion once said ,

I write entirely to find out what I am thinking , what I am looking at, what I see and what it means. What I want and what I fear.

And I couldn’t agree more.

Journaling has been the most important part of my life.

Whenever I feel lost in my life and don't know where I am going what i am doing and why i am doing this, I start writing my feelings on paper.

I remember this practice started, when I was a child. When one day my father was very sick and he was bedridden for weeks and everyone at home was worried and stressed and at that moment I used to express my feelings on paper and write a letter to God to heal my father quickly. That was my way of expressing my thoughts and feelings because I could not share or express my feelings with anyone.

And since then, whenever I feel lost or sad I resort to writing my feelings on paper.

There are many people like me who cannot express or share their feelings with anyone and they might not know where their life is taking them. Journaling can be a beneficial tool for them.

Keeping a journal helps you in many ways like it helps you keep track of your life and helps you get your emotions out and learn about them. Not only that it also helps you become more mindful and helps you get better sleep.

Journaling has really helped me and I really recommend anyone to start keeping a journal because it is the perfect way to combat mental health and helps you to easily jot down your thoughts without anyone judging you or interrupting you. It helps you connect with your inner self and understanding your emotions.

The perfect way to start journaling is buying a notebook and a pen that pleases you and start writing daily atleast for 10–15 minutes per day about anything. you can practice stream of consciousness i.e. to just let your random thoughts out whatever thoughts you are having at a certain point or you can write a journal to get clarity on your goals and for manifestation. You can journal about how your day went and what good things happened to you throughout the day.

There is no hard and fast rule and no right or wrong way to journal. It really could be anything that you want to write on.

But trust me this is the best habit you can ever develop which is cheapest and easiest yet the most beneficial.

And as Anne Frank has rightly written in her diary that ‘paper has more patience than people’ journaling will truly help you become aware of your thoughts and feelings and know yourself better.
